Robbers Attack Akure Health Centre, Abduct Three Workers

Residents of Akure were thrown into panic in the early hours of Saturday after armed robbers stormed a Basic Health Centre in the Oke-Ijebu area, abducting three health workers on duty.

According to reports, the attackers said to be three in number arrived in a black Toyota Venza and parked along the roadside before sneaking into the facility. Armed with pump-action rifles and cutlasses, they scaled the fence and gained access to the health centre.

The workers on duty were reportedly robbed of their belongings, including mobile phones and a POS machine, before being forcefully taken away. The assailants then moved towards the area around the Olokuta Correctional Centre along Ondo Road.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, explained that the victims were later abandoned in a bush after being stripped of their clothing.

Thankfully, the victims managed to find help from staff of the nearby correctional facility and are now safe.

The police have since stepped up patrols across the state and are working closely with other security agencies and local vigilante groups to track down the suspects.

Residents have been advised to remain calm but vigilant, and to report any suspicious movements to the nearest authorities, as efforts continue to ensure the safety of lives and property in the state.
